Credentialing
Obtaining your EMT is a three-step process.
- You must pass an EMT course
- Take and pass the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) cognitive and psychomotor exams.
- You then must apply for California EMT certification through a local EMS Agency.

Have you recently been hired with an ambulance provider or fire department in Santa Clara County?
If yes, you will need to apply for EMT accreditation (Initial). Please review and complete the following:
Are you continuing employment with the same ambulance provider or fire department in Santa Clara County, and is your EMT accreditation expiring in the next 6 months?
If yes, you will need to apply for EMT accreditation (renewal). Please review and complete the following:
Are you currently a Paramedic in the State of California and are looking to become an accredited paramedic in Santa Clara County?
If yes, please review and complete the following:
Are you looking to maintain continuous Santa Clara County Paramedic Accreditation?

Have you recently been hired with an ambulance provider operating in Santa Clara County?
If yes, you will need to apply for nurse EMS system accreditation (Initial). Please review and complete the following:
Are you continuing employment with the same ambulance provider operating in Santa Clara County, and is your nurse EMS system accreditation expiring in the next 6 months?
