Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

To become an EMT in the State of California, you will need to successfully complete an approved EMT training program. You may find a list of approved training programs here​. After you have completed your training, you must pass the National Registry (NREMT) cognitive and psychomotor examinations and apply for certification at a local EMS agency. ​

​For questions pertaining to a bill received from a 9-1-1 ambulance transport please visit the AMR website. If you have a question pertaining to a non 9-1-1 transport please contact the ambulance company directly. You can view a list of the approved ambulance providers in Santa Clara County.

Together, Santa Clara County EMS, Santa Clara County Communications, Gilroy Fire Department, CAL FIRE, AMR and Santa Clara County Fire Department are launching an innovative new Nurse Navigator Program that provides South County and West Valley community members a variety of options to quickly access the right level of medical care based on their specific medical needs. Nurse Navigators will work with patients directly to determine an appropriate path for treatment and assist in coordinating that care.
